An X user, Ravi Handa, shared a troubling incident involving his friend Monik Sharma from Assam and his experience with IndiGo airlines. The incident occurred a month ago when Sharma took a flight from Kolkata to Guwahati, but it came to light on Saturday after his friend posted about it online. According to Handa, IndiGo misplaced the passenger’s luggage, which contained valuables worth ₹45,000, including crucial documents such as an Aadhar card, PAN card, and driving license. Despite filing a complaint, the airline offered a mere ₹2,450 in compensation.

Handa expressed his frustration on X, stating, “The luggage was checked in at Kolkata airport but never made it to Guwahati. How can it disappear mid-flight? Was the plane leaking bags?” He further criticized the airline’s compensation policy, saying, “After almost a month, IndiGo has offered ‘compensation’ of ₹2,450. That doesn’t even cover the cost of the bag itself. Apparently, there’s a rule that limits airline liability to ₹350 per kg for lost baggage. This is just adding insult to injury. If someone from the Indigo social media team is reading this, please help him out. ₹2,450 isn’t going to fix it.”

Since being posted on August 24, the post has garnered over 300,000 views and nearly 2,000 likes, with numbers continuing to rise. The comment section is filled with various reactions from other users.

One commenter pointed out, “The airlines ask you not to keep any valuables (cash and jewellery especially) in the checked-in luggage. Even important documentation like DL, PAN etc. Even a consumer court can’t help here, move on.”

Another user (Materialistic Professor @ProfMaterial)suggested, “Credit cards often come with baggage loss insurance. As a rule of thumb, never put anything valuable in a check-in bag. Anyone can access your bag during transit, and no one is accountable for any missing items.”

A third person shared their personal precaution, “My family rule is no valuables in checked baggage, and each of us carries a spare set of clothes in our carry-on. I always assume the airline might misplace my checked luggage. My family thinks I’m paranoid, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.”
