First-year TISS student found dead at Mumbai apartment after returning from party
The police are waiting for his family to arrive in Mumbai from Lucknow before they send the body for an autopsy.
A 23-year-old student of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) in Mumbai has been found dead in a flat in Chembur, Mumbai.
The student, identified as Anurag Jaiswal, was found unconscious at his rented apartment on Saturday morning, August 24. He was rushed to the hospital by his roommates where doctors declared him dead.
Anurag was in the first year of the Human Resources program at TISS. It is reported that he is originally from Lucknow. He went to a party in Vashi on Friday night, August 23, where nearly 150 students were also present at that place.
There he reportedly consumed a large amount of liquor and returned home in the early hours of Saturday around 3 am, feeling sick. When his roommates tried to wake him up, they found him unresponsive. That scared his friends too. He was then admitted to a local hospital in Chembur by his friends. However, doctors declared him dead.
As soon as the police got the information about this incident, they rushed to the spot.
We will record detailed statements of his roommates and those present at the party,” Indian Express quoted DCP Hemraj Rajput as saying.
The postmortem will be done at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. The police said that the cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem report.
The police are waiting for his family to arrive in Mumbai from Lucknow before they send the body for an autopsy.
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences has shared a message condoling the student’s death. “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing away of Anurag Jaiswal, first year student of HRM&LR of TISS Mumbai. We are with Anurag’s family at this heartbreaking time and our thoughts and prayers will always be with Anurag’s family,” the institute said in a post on X.
While ruling out the possibility of ragging, the police have registered a case of accidental death and started an investigation.
