23-year-old medico found dead at home; police register case of suspicious death
A 23-year-old doctor in Hyderabad allegedly died by suicide following repeated disputes with her family over adopting a pet cat, officials said. The incident occurred in the Alwal area on Friday evening when she was alone at home.
The deceased has been identified as T Princy, also known as Shreshtha, who had recently completed her medical degree and was preparing for postgraduate entrance examinations. She was living with her mother and grandmother at the time of the incident.
According to police, Princy had brought a cat home a few weeks ago. Following this, she reportedly developed symptoms such as cold and cough, which led her family members to object to keeping the pet. The issue is said to have caused frequent arguments within the household.
Incident Took Place When She Was Alone At Home
On Friday evening, her mother and grandmother had stepped out for work. Upon returning, they found her hanging from a ceiling fan in her room. The family immediately alerted neighbours, who then informed the police.
Officials reached the spot and shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police Probe Underway
An official said, “The mother informed us that Princy had brought home a pet cat. After that, she developed cold and cough symptoms, which led to repeated disputes between them.”
Police have registered a case of suspicious death based on the complaint filed by her mother. While preliminary findings suggest a domestic disagreement, authorities stated that all possible angles are being investigated.

Officials noted that Princy had recently completed her medical education and was in the process of applying for her medical license while preparing for postgraduate entrance exams.
The incident has raised concerns about mental health and the pressures faced by young professionals, especially those navigating personal and family challenges.
