Pune, June 4, 2026: In a major crackdown on illegal LPG refilling activities, the Property Crime Cell of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate has busted an unauthorized gas refilling operation in Chakan and seized 251 LPG cylinders and equipment collectively worth ₹9.71 lakh.

The action was carried out following specific intelligence received by the police about an illegal gas refilling business operating near the Balaji Gas Agency area in Chakan. Acting on the tip-off, a police team conducted a raid and uncovered the unauthorized transfer of LPG from commercial cylinders into smaller cylinders using specialized refilling equipment.

During the operation, police seized 251 gas cylinders, gas refilling equipment including weighing scales and nozzles, and a vehicle allegedly used in the illegal business.

Police have taken action against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Essential Commodities Act, and provisions related to the handling of explosive substances.

According to investigators, the accused were allegedly carrying out the refilling operation without proper authorization and without following mandatory safety protocols, posing a serious threat to public safety and increasing the risk of accidents and explosions.

The accused have been identified as residents of the Chakan area, and further investigation is underway to determine the scale of the operation and whether more individuals were involved.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior officers of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, with the Property Crime Cell leading the investigation.

Police officials said strict action will continue against illegal gas refilling businesses that endanger public safety and violate essential commodity regulations.
