New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a crucial directive regarding refund of fees to students who cancel or withdraw their admissions within a specific time frame.

According to the directive, the date before which full refund is to be issued if the admission is cancelled by the students is September 30. If the student cancels admission after September 30 and before October 31, a processing fee of Rs 1,000 could be collected by the institutions and the remaining amount has to be refunded.

As per the UGC guidelines, the admission process should be completed in Central Universites before October 31. However, in many state universities, admissions continue even after this date. UGC has asked such institutions to follow its directives on refund issued in 2018.

As per these directives, full refund has to be issued if the cancellation takes place more than 15 days after the last date, the refund is 80 percent. Meanwhile, the refund is 50 percent of the fees if the cancellation is within 30 days after the last date.

The UGC’s directive also said if any higer-education institution expresses reluctance to repay the fees as per these rules, the students could approach the grievance redressal authorities.
