A 64-year-old retired SBI employee successfully passes the NEET exam, realizing his dream of pursuing an MBBS degree and demonstrating that age is merely a figure.
Jay Kishore Pradhan, a former employee of the State Bank of India (SBI), achieved success in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) in 2020 at the remarkable age of 64.
Pradhan adopted a methodical strategy to get ready for the NEET by signing up for an online coaching program that offered organized support throughout the intricate curriculum.
Jay Kishore Pradhan concluded his 40-year career as a Deputy Manager at SBI. Post-retirement, he decided to chase his lifelong ambition of entering the medical profession. After dedicating so much of his life to his family, he was now ready to pursue his own dreams.
Obviously, the journey wouldn’t have been easy for him. Jay faced a significant obstacle: the NEET exams had an age restriction that disqualified him. Fortunately, the Supreme Court’s 2019 ruling, which eliminated the upper age limit for applicants, was a game-changer for him. Seizing this chance, Jay dedicated himself to pursuing his dream. According to Section 14 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, there is no maximum age restriction.
Comprehending the curriculum after a significant break requires immense dedication and preparation. Pradhan faced challenges beyond academics; he also had family responsibilities to manage.
This wasn’t Jay’s first attempt at NEET. After completing his intermediate studies, he had tried to pass the exam but fell short. However, his unfulfilled aspiration was rekindled when he witnessed his twin daughters getting ready for NEET. Rather than vicariously pursuing that dream through them, Jay resolved to prepare for the exam himself.
In 2020, his dedication and effort bore fruit as he excelled in the NEET exam. Subsequently, he secured a place in the MBBS program at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Odisha. Upon finishing his education, he aspires to establish a private practice.
