Pune: Kalyani Nagar residents are battling the issues of ever-increasing flex or banners in the area. The previously installed banners are also not removed.

It is worthy to note that the excessive use of flex posters can lead to visual pollution, degrading the aesthetic appeal of the surroundings. It can make public spaces appear cluttered, untidy, and unappealing. Placing flex posters near roads and intersections can obstruct the visibility of drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists. This obstruction can contribute to accidents and pose a risk to public safety. Flex posters are often made of non-biodegradable materials like PVC, which are harmful to the environment. Improper disposal of these posters can lead to pollution and contribute to plastic waste. Improper installation of flex posters on buildings, fences, and other structures can cause damage to surfaces, leading to maintenance and repair costs.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Drayson Dixon, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, ” The flex and banners are put up in prominent places like near Gold Adlabs and the area opposite Bishop’s school. There are other areas as well where flex and banners are put up. These flexes are not at all safe for the people.”

Rachna Agarwal, another Kayani Nagar Resident said, “These flex & banners are put up by politicians for every silly reason like birthdays, events etc. This is so wrong. The authorities simply ignore the issue. We have to, after a lot of tiring effort, remove these banners and flex.”

Monica S, another resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “Flex posters and banners block important road signs which jeopardize our safety while their non-biodegradable nature perpetuates environmental harm. Immediate measures are essential like strict enforcement of rules, use of sustainable materials, and fostering civic pride. We must transform these hazards into catalysts for change, advocating for a harmonious blend of aesthetics, safety, and responsible advertising that reflects our collective commitment to a healthier, more attractive cityscape.”

Pune Pulse tried to contact the relevant PMC official but couldn’t connect till the filing of this report.

Yogesh Mulik, ex-corporator, Vadgaon Sheri said, “The PMC keeps check on the flex and banners in the area every day and takes strict action against the ones at fault.”
