India and Pakistan Agree To Immediate Ceasefire Following U.S. Mediation
India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire following high-level talks mediated by the United States, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday via a post on Truth Social.
“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries for using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote.
The breakthrough comes just days after escalating tensions between the two nations, triggered by a deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam last month that claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to official sources, the operation resulted in the deaths of over 100 militants.
Among the sites hit were the Lashkar-e-Taiba’s Muridke headquarters and the Jaish-e-Mohammed’s base in Bahawalpur—both long under Indian intelligence scrutiny for their involvement in past terror attacks.
Confirming the development, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity!”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed that both he and Vice President JD Vance engaged extensively with senior officials from both sides over the past two days to broker the ceasefire. He added that further talks between India and Pakistan are expected to begin soon at a neutral venue, covering a broader range of bilateral issues.
