IPL 2025: Possible Venues if T20 League Resumes — Full List and Details

IPL 2025 Updated Schedule Announced: 17 Matches, 6 Venues, Playoffs Begin May 29 — Key Details Inside
Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad likely to host rest of the IPL 2025 season if the league resumes in May
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 faces a cloud of uncertainty following its abrupt mid-season suspension due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. While several overseas players have already returned to their home countries, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly drawing up a contingency plan to resume the tournament later this month.
According to an ESPNcricinfo report, the BCCI has shortlisted three South Indian cities — Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad — to host the remaining 16 matches of IPL 2025 if the league resumes in May. The suspension was announced on Friday, May 9, during Match 58 between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was abandoned in the 11th over due to the league’s pause.
No Final Decision Yet on Resumption Timeline
While the BCCI confirmed the temporary suspension, it has not officially announced a timeline for the league’s possible resumption. Franchise officials have reportedly been informally briefed on the complexity of restarting IPL 2025 under the current geopolitical climate, with strong indications that the remainder of the tournament might be pushed to a later date in the year.
Overseas Player Availability a Major Concern
One of the biggest hurdles for resuming the IPL in May is the availability of foreign players, many of whom have already left India. Bringing them back could prove difficult, especially with the World Test Championship (WTC) final set to begin on June 11 at Lord’s between Australia and South Africa — both nations having several players active in IPL teams.
If the IPL is extended beyond its original finale date of May 25, the overlap with international fixtures could complicate team line-ups and player availability.
Playoff Hosting Plans Could Change
Initially, Hyderabad was set to host the first qualifier and the eliminator, while Kolkata was scheduled to host the second qualifier and the final. However, if the tournament shifts to South India due to logistical or political reasons, these venues may be reassigned.
What Remains in IPL 2025?
Before the suspension, IPL 2025 had completed 57 full matches. With 16 matches still to go, the league stage has 12 matches remaining, followed by the playoffs and the final. It remains unclear whether the suspended match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will be replayed or declared a No Result, which would award one point to each team.
As the BCCI evaluates its options, all eyes remain on whether IPL 2025 can be salvaged this season or postponed for a later window.
