India’s first hyperloop test track ready: Delhi to Jaipur in 30 minutes to soon be reality
Hyperloop represents a groundbreaking fifth mode of transportation, characterized by a high-speed train operating within a near-vacuum tube.
IIT Madras has successfully constructed India’s inaugural hyperloop test track, which spans 422 meters. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to facilitate travel between Delhi and Jaipur in under 30 minutes, marking a significant leap forward in transportation innovation, as noted by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Hyperloop represents a groundbreaking fifth mode of transportation, characterized by a high-speed train operating within a near-vacuum tube. This innovative design significantly minimizes air resistance, enabling the capsule to achieve speeds exceeding 1000 km/h. The concept of Hyperloop was introduced to the public by Elon Musk, the leader of SpaceX and Tesla, in 2013 through a whitepaper titled ‘Hyperloop Alpha.’
Once fully operational, hyperloop technology could traverse 350 kilometers in merely 30 minutes. Consequently, a journey from Delhi to Jaipur, approximately 300 kilometers, could be completed in less than half an hour.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized,” “Government-academia collaboration is driving innovation in futuristic transportation.”

Vaishnaw emphasized the commitment of the Modi administration to advance the nation along the trajectory of innovation, noting that this dedication enables the ministry to collaborate effectively with educational institutions.
“Days are not far off when our country will realize very fast hyperloop connectivity between important destinations across our nation. A key objective of the event is to showcase and propagate hyperloop concepts worldwide, fostering a transformative spirit among young minds in the field of transportation,” says V Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.
Following Vaishnaw’s additional insights regarding the track, it is anticipated that the Indian Railways is preparing to introduce its inaugural commercial hyperloop project in the near future.
