India's Hottest City in Maharashtra: Temperature Soars to 44.7°C, Heatwave to Persist for Four More Days
The city of Nagpur in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region recorded the highest temperature in the country on Saturday, April 19, 2025, as the mercury soared to a scorching 44.7 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was not only the hottest day of the season for Nagpur but also the highest temperature recorded in India on the day. The temperature was 4.1 degrees Celsius above the normal seasonal average.
Though the IMD did not declare a heatwave in Nagpur, the oppressive heat significantly affected daily life, prompting residents to stay indoors and avoid travel during peak afternoon hours. The city witnessed dry and harsh weather conditions, with increased demand for water and cooling appliances.
Along with Nagpur, Bhusawal in North Maharashtra also recorded extreme heat, registering 44.3°C making it the second hottest city in the country for the day. Bhusawal had previously touched 44.4°C on April 10 but had seen some relief before the recent spike.
The IMD has forecast that the intense heat will continue in parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha, including Nagpur, over the next few days. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 12 noon and 4 pm.
Experts say the current trend indicates an early onset of peak summer conditions across central India, with more temperature records likely to be challenged in the coming weeks.
