The Navi Mumbai International Airport is gearing up to start its operations in March 2025. They’ve kicked off the Instrumental Landing System (ILS) trials recently, starting from Wednesday, July 17. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is overseeing these crucial trials as part of the runway clearance process.

The trials usually last for two days, but they might stretch till Friday if the AAI team doesn’t get the feedback they need, as per the source.

If the ILS trials go well, it will pave the way for testing commercial aircraft operations, signifying a major step forward in the journey towards the partial opening of the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which has completed 65% of its construction.

The airport has two runways, one to the north and one to the south. They’re planning to start operations on the south runway by March 2025, as per the sources.

The D B Patil International Airport in Navi Mumbai, named after the late Dinkar Balu Patil, who was a leader of the Peasants and Workers Party of India, will be the third airport in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. It follows India’s first civil aviation airport at Juhu and the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport.

The foundation stone for the Navi Mumbai International Airport project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2018. Construction officially began in August 2021, marking a significant milestone in the development of this crucial infrastructure project.
