Pune: People visiting the historical monument of Shaniwarwada are facing difficulties due to the lack of appropriate and sufficient parking spaces. The current parking arrangement can only accommodate a maximum of 10 cars at a time, leading to difficulties for those attempting to park their vehicles.

Ajit Panse, the owner of a cab service in Pune, sharing his frustration said, “Previously, the parking at Shaniwarwada was from both sides. However, it has now been reduced to just one side, where only a limited number of cars can be accommodated. If additional vehicles enter the parking space, it becomes impossible for the parked cars to manoeuvre and exit. The lack of proper planning for the parking area has led to a lot of inconvenience. We often have to wait for approximately 30 minutes to find a parking spot when the current space is full.”

Arunkumar Nair, a core member of Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat in Pune, highlighted the frequent conflicts arising from the parking space issue at Shaniwarwada. With only a single lane available for parking, only 9 to 10 cars can be accommodated comfortably. Nair criticized the lack of effective management in addressing the problem.

Harshada Shinde, the Superintendent Engineer of the PMC Bhavan Department, explained the geographical constraints faced in expanding the parking space at Shaniwarwada. She mentioned that the only alternative parking option will be near the Nadi Patra. However, plans are being developed to address the current parking issues.
