IPL 2025 Suspended Indefinitely Amid Rising India-Pakistan Military Tensions
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended until further notice due to escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan. The announcement was made late Friday evening after a mid-match blackout disrupted the ongoing game between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in Dharamshala.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the suspension as a precautionary measure, citing national security concerns. So far, 58 of the scheduled 74 matches have been completed. The remaining 16 matches — including crucial playoff games and the final — will be rescheduled at a later date.
The decision follows a series of aerial attacks launched by Pakistan on Thursday, targeting Jammu and military installations near the western border. India’s air defence systems successfully intercepted the drones and missiles, but widespread blackouts and air raid sirens were reported in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
The incident directly impacted the PBKS vs DC fixture, which was called off 10.2 overs into play after a sudden power outage and emergency sirens in the surrounding region. With player and spectator safety taking top priority, authorities promptly evacuated the venue and enforced emergency protocols.
This marks the first time in IPL history that the league has been halted due to military conflict. While the BCCI has not released a revised schedule, sources indicate that the tournament will resume only once the security situation stabilizes.
