An IT professional from Wakad has been duped by more than Rs 20 lakh in an online task fraud from March 28, 2023, to January 2, 2024.

As per information from the FIR accessed by Pune Pulse, Avinash Krishnakutty Kunnubaram, an IT professional from Wakad, received a message from an unknown number in March 2023, offering him an opportunity to earn more money. Avinash was offered a huge amount of money to complete various online tasks.

Avinash decided to accept the offer to earn more money. He was tasked with liking social media posts. He was asked to pay some money for this. Initially, the 5 unidentified accused had sent a large amount of money to Avinash to complete the tasks to gain his confidence.

The fraudsters then lured Avinash to join a task group on Telegram. Avinash accepted this. In this way, Avinash had transferred Rs 20,32,787 to the fraudsters. However, he realized that he had fallen victim to an online task scam.

Hence, Avinash registered an FIR with Wakad Police on January 3, 2024.

The 5 accused have been booked by Wakad Police under Sections 406, 419, 420, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & Sections 66 (C) & 66 (D) of the IT Act. Further investigation is going on.
