Junior College Admissions Kick Off In Maharashtra With 40,000+ Confirmations; Pune District Registers 5,497Â Â
Pune, July 1, 2025: More than 40,000 students across Maharashtra confirmed their Class 11 (junior college) admissions on the first day of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP), according to data released on Monday. The admissions are based on the first allotment list, which was published on Saturday evening.
Out of 10.66 lakh applicants, 6,32,194 students were allotted seats in junior colleges across the state. Students have until July 7 to physically confirm their admissions at the allotted colleges.
In the Pune divisional region, a total of 10,835 students confirmed their admissions by 6 pm on Monday. Of these, 5,497 were from Pune district, 2,988 from Solapur, and 2,350 from Ahilyanagar. Seven colleges in Pune district witnessed over 80% of their seats allotted in the first round. These include:
- Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce (BMCC) – 462 out of 480 seats filled
- Fergusson College
- Mahilashram High School & Junior College
- Laxmanrao Apte Prashala
- Vidya Pratishthan Arts, Science & Commerce Junior College
- Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce
- Bhaurao Patil Vidyamandir Junior College
Science Stream Leads Statewide, Regional Preferences Vary
The science stream continued to dominate admissions statewide, with 3,42,801 students allotted seats. This was followed by the arts stream with 1,49,791 seats and commerce with 1,39,602 seats.
In the Pune division, 68,272 students secured seats in science, while 26,779 were allotted commerce and 21,240 in arts.
Interestingly, Mumbai showed a different trend — the commerce stream topped the list with 69,107 allotments, followed by science with 54,234, and arts with 16,602.
In contrast, Nagpur leaned heavily towards science (38,191), with arts second (21,416), and commerce the least preferred (7,400). The trend of low preference for commerce was also observed in other regions like Amravati, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, Latur, and Nashik.
The admission process will continue throughout the week as students visit their respective colleges to complete formalities.
