A passenger shared a photo of the notice on X, which quickly went viral and elicited laughter. One user commented, “An ethical and essential message for cab passengers,” while another noted, “Damn. Saw these in Bangalore and Delhi. Didn’t expect this in Hyderabad so soon.”
Last week, a Bengaluru cab driver’s humorous and straightforward set of rules gained attention on Reddit. A user who recently booked a ride shared a photo of the rules displayed behind the driver’s seat, which included blunt yet funny guidelines for passengers.
Among the rules was a notable reminder: “You are not the owner of the cab.”
“The person driving the cab is the owner of the cab.”
While the intention seems to be promoting mutual respect, many online commenters found some of the points amusing and questioned the underlying message from the driver.
One comment humorously addressed the rule against calling the driver “bhaiya” (a common Hindi term for brother used to refer to male drivers). The commenter asked, “Most points are fair but what’s with – don’t call us bhaiya?” Another user chimed in, saying, “Uncle it is. Always helps in inflicting emotional damage,” joking about how people can choose terms of address that are less likely to offend drivers.
Some users recognized the significance of mutual respect and basic etiquette, noting that reminders to gently close the door and not to pressure the driver to speed are quite reasonable. One user pointed out, “As long as it is mentioned for mutual respect, it’s perfectly fine. And things like closing the door softly and not disturbing the driver are basic manners.”
