The highly anticipated sci-fi film ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, is set to release on June 27, 2024. The new release date was announced via an updated poster shared on the film’s official X account, showcasing Deepika, Prabhas, and Amitabh standing together in a desert-like setting with the release date prominently displayed.
A week prior to this announcement, a teaser was released featuring Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Ashwatthama. In the teaser, Ashwatthama is seen praying before a Shiva linga inside a cave. When a child asks who he is, he replies, “Since ancient times, I have awaited the arrival of the Avatar. I am Guru Drona’s son, Ashwatthama.” This scene, which features his character in a de-aged look, quickly gained popularity online.
‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is a science fiction narrative that merges elements of Indian mythology with futuristic storytelling. The film spans a timeline starting from the era of the Mahabharata and extending to the year 2898 AD, covering over 6000 years. Director Nag Ashwin has emphasized his vision of blending traditional Indian elements with a futuristic world, aiming to create something unique yet familiar. He expressed his intention not to mimic Western sci-fi aesthetics like those seen in “Blade Runner,” but rather to forge a path that retains the essence of Indian culture.
At the Synapse 2024 event in Gurgaon, Nag Ashwin shared insights into the creative process behind the film, explaining how they envisioned and built the worlds in the movie while keeping them authentically Indian. Additionally, during the festival of Maha Shivaratri, another poster was released revealing Prabhas’s character name as Bhairava, adding to the intrigue and mythological connections of the storyline.
With its star-studded cast and innovative concept, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is one of the most anticipated releases, promising to offer a unique blend of mythology and science fiction to its audience.
