Kalyani Nagar residents, in collaboration with Team Swachh (TSKN) and Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre, convened a meeting to voice their grievances about the disruptive activities of restaurants, nightclubs, rooftop establishments, and other commercial entities operating in open-air spaces. The gathering aimed to find viable solutions to the persistent problems faced by the community. Residents living near establishments such as ‘The Unicorn House,’ ‘Elrow Club,’ ‘Elephant & Co,’ and others have endured disturbances and are seeking urgent action from the Pune Police Commissioner and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials. Today, the residents met PMC Commissioner Vikram Kumar and Pune Police Commissioner Reetesh Kumarr.

Major Issues Raised by Residents :

Persistent Noise Pollution: The establishments consistently operate beyond permitted hours, generating excessively loud music that surpasses legal decibel limits. Despite multiple complaints, no substantial actions have been taken to address this violation, causing significant inconvenience for the residents.

Encroachment on Public Spaces: Certain hotels have encroached upon public areas, obstructing pedestrian movement and causing inconvenience. Footpaths, parking lots, and other public spaces have been illegally occupied, leading to traffic congestion and compromising the safety of local residents.

Parking Violations: Visitors to these establishments frequently violate parking regulations, resulting in chaotic parking situations on narrow streets. Haphazardly parked cars often block entry and exit gates of nearby residential societies, posing risks during emergencies and hindering the movement of emergency vehicles.

Hygiene Concerns: Several restaurants have neglected proper sanitation practices, leading to the accumulation of garbage in and around their premises. Despite repeated concerns raised by the residents, the restaurant owners have shown little commitment to addressing this issue, compromising the overall cleanliness of the area.

Fire Hazards: Rooftop restaurants like Elrow Club and Unicorn House pose a significant fire risk due to overcrowding and inadequate safety measures. Unauthorized use of plastic sheets, as seen in Elephant & Co, further amplifies the danger. Urgent fire audits are necessary to prevent potential incidents and safeguard public safety.

Other Serious Issues: Underage drinking, hookah service, violence, inappropriate behavior, drug consumption, and bullying by owners and managers of these commercial establishments have become distressingly common. Instances of physical assault and the presence of hazardous items in public spaces raise concerns about the safety and security of residents.

The residents, together with MLA Sunil Tingre, are hopeful for prompt and effective action from the Pune Police Commissioner and the Municipal Commissioner. They emphasize the need for holding erring commercial establishments and social groups accountable for their actions. The community seeks a safe and peaceful environment and urges the authorities to enforce existing laws and regulations to address these ongoing issues.
