Navi Mumbai: A 44-year-old man lost his life, and seven others sustained injuries after a swarm of bees attacked a group of tourists at Karnala Bird Sanctuary in Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred on Saturday during a trek to Karnala Fort.

Victim Identified as Sandeep Purohit

The deceased, Sandeep Purohit, was visiting the sanctuary with his wife, son, and family friends. During the sudden bee attack, Purohit fell and suffered a head injury while trying to escape.

Forest Officials Responded Promptly

Upon receiving a distress call, forest officials reached the spot within 30 minutes. They found several tourists on the ground trying to avoid bee stings, while Purohit was lying unconscious due to his head injury.

Police Investigation Underway

Senior police inspector Gajanan Ghadge stated, “The bees generally attack only when provoked. We are investigating what may have triggered the incident. An accidental death report has been filed.”

Hospital Confirms Death, Cause Awaited

Purohit was declared brought dead at Panvel sub-district hospital. According to Superintendent Dr. Ashok Gite:
“In cases of multiple bee stings, severe allergic reactions can cause cardiac arrest. Purohit had minor abrasions on his forehead. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after histopathology examination, for which samples have been sent to Sion Hospital.”

Others Injured in the Attack

A total of 10 people, including Purohit’s wife and son, suffered bee stings. Seven of them sustained injuries but are reported to be stable.
