Thousands of devotees gathered as the sacred portals of Kedarnath Dham reopened with Vedic rituals, marking the beginning of this year’s pilgrimage season.

The doors of the world-famous Kedarnath Temple were opened for devotees on Wednesday morning at 8 am with full traditional rituals and Vedic chanting. The spiritual atmosphere at the shrine echoed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” as pilgrims witnessed the grand opening ceremony.

The reopening of the temple marks the formal start of the annual Kedarnath Yatra, one of the most significant pilgrimages for Shiva devotees.

Religious ceremonies began early in the morning around 4 am. After the ritual worship of the Panchmukhi Doli, the deity’s ceremonial palanquin was brought to the temple courtyard. Priests then completed the prescribed customs before the temple doors were opened at the auspicious hour.

As soon as the portals opened, the Panchmukhi idol of Lord Kedarnath was taken first into the sanctum sanctorum. After final rituals, Baba Kedarnath was ceremonially seated inside the shrine.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was present during the occasion along with his wife. The couple offered prayers for the prosperity, peace and progress of the state.

Thousands of devotees from across India and abroad gathered at the Himalayan shrine to witness the sacred moment. Many had been waiting since early morning despite the cold weather.

Adding to the grandeur of the occasion, flower petals were showered on the temple premises from a helicopter, creating an emotional and visually striking scene that lifted the spirit of devotees.

Kedarnath, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is one of the holiest shrines in Hinduism and part of the Char Dham Yatra. Every year, the temple remains closed during winter due to heavy snowfall and reopens in summer with elaborate rituals.

With the temple doors now open, the pilgrimage season has officially begun, bringing a fresh wave of faith, devotion and economic activity to the region.
