A groundbreaking moment in education unfolded as KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, introduced India’s first humanoid AI teacher named Iris. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech, Iris is a revolutionary addition to the Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) project, initiated by NITI Aayog in 2021 to enhance extracurricular activities in schools nationwide.

Iris, showcased in a video shared by Makerlabs on Instagram, demonstrates its multilingual capabilities by answering complex questions across various subjects. Beyond voice assistance, Iris offers personalized learning experiences and interactive engagement. The humanoid teacher is equipped with wheels for added mobility, representing a significant leap in educational technology.

Makerlabs Edutech expressed pride in unveiling Iris, describing it as the “AI Teacher Robot” poised to redefine the learning landscape. The innovative creation symbolizes Makerlabs’ commitment to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in education, with anticipation for more groundbreaking innovations in the future.

This development marks a transformative shift in Kerala’s educational landscape, presenting Iris as a potential catalyst for personalized learning experiences, catering to diverse learning styles and fostering greater engagement among students. 

Sharing a video of Iris on Instagram, Makerlabs wrote, “With IRIS, we’ve set out to revolutionize education by harnessing the power of AI to create a truly personalized learning experience. By adapting to each student’s needs and preferences, IRIS empowers educators to deliver engaging and effective lessons like never before.

While the long-term impact is yet to be fully realized, Iris provides a glimpse into the future of education, where AI assumes a supportive role in the classroom, making learning more interactive and enjoyable.
