An IndiGo flight bound for Kolkata was forced to return to Nagpur on Tuesday morning after a suspected bird strike shortly after takeoff. The Airbus aircraft, carrying between 160 and 165 passengers, landed safely back at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, officials confirmed.
Airport authorities said the emergency landing was precautionary after the aircraft reportedly sustained mid-air damage. “All passengers and crew are safe.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause,” said Abid Ruhi, Senior Airport Director, Nagpur Airport.
IndiGo, in a statement, confirmed the incident. “Flight 6E 812 operating from Nagpur to Kolkata on 02 September 2025 encountered a bird strike soon after takeoff. As a precautionary step, pilots decided to turn back, and the flight landed safely. Due to the requirement of necessary inspection and maintenance, the flight has been cancelled,” the airline spokesperson said.
