A landslide in Sakholi, Dapoli talukas of Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra caused significant concern among local residents and authorities. Triggered by heavy monsoon rains, the landslide was captured in dramatic footage as soil and rocks cascaded down a hillside. The experts have attributed the incident to prolonged rainfall that saturated and destabilised the soil. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert and emphasised the need for improved infrastructure and early warning systems.

Simultaneously, heavy rains triggered another landslide on the Konkan Railway route. It halted 5 to 6-long distance trains on Sunday evening. The landslide occurred outside a tunnel between Vinhere and Divan Khawati stations. Consequently, the train brought the traffic to a standstill.
Fortunately, no train was passing through the affected area therefore, no injuries or accidents occurred at the affected area at that time. Efforts are underway to restore services.
Nevertheless, such devastating incidents cause several significant impacts including local concerns highlighting the region’s vulnerability to such natural disasters. It can cause delays and disruption for trains. There is a need for enhanced infrastructure, early warning systems and prevention of future tragedies.
