Leafy Greens Overflow Pune's Market Yard, Prices Plummet
Pune’s Market Yard is witnessing an exceptional influx of leafy vegetables, leading to a significant drop in prices for greens like coriander, amaranth, and chawlai. This comes after last week’s heavy rains had temporarily reduced the arrival of fruits and vegetables.
With the weather now stabilizing, the supply of fruits and vegetables is returning to normal levels. This resurgence has resulted in reduced prices for vegetables such as cucumber, dodka (ridge gourd), peas, and chillies in the wholesale market. In contrast, prices for fenugreek, shepu, kandapat (spring onion), chakwat, pudina (mint), radish, and spinach have remained steady.
Traders in the vegetable section report a substantial delivery on Sunday, with two lakh bundles of coriander and one lakh bundles of fenugreek flooding the market.
Current Wholesale Prices of Leafy Vegetables (per 100 bundles):
- Coriander: ₹800 to ₹1,000
- Fenugreek: ₹500 to ₹800
- Shepu: ₹500 to ₹800
- Spring Onion: ₹800 to ₹1,000
- Chakwat: ₹400 to ₹600
- Kardai: ₹300 to ₹600
- Mint: ₹400 to ₹1,000
- Flax: ₹500 to ₹800
- Amaranth : ₹400 to ₹700
- Chuka: ₹500 to ₹800
- Chawlai: ₹300 to ₹700
- Spinach: ₹800 to ₹1,500
Traders emphasize that these prices are driven by the current supply and demand dynamics. With the weather forecast indicating continued stability, the increased vegetable supply is expected to persist, potentially further stabilizing or reducing prices in the coming weeks.
For consumers, this means enhanced availability and affordability of fresh leafy greens, making now an opportune time to stock up on these nutritious vegetables.
