Residents of Bhayandar East witnessed a frightening start to Thursday, December 19, after a leopard strayed into a densely populated residential area, leaving multiple people injured and triggering chaos across the locality.

The incident took place on Talav Road, where the wild animal reportedly entered the Parijat building in the early hours of the morning. In the sudden attack, members of the same family were injured, with initial reports confirming at least three people hurt. As the situation unfolded, updated information indicated that the number of seriously injured victims had risen to five.

Panic spread quickly among residents as the leopard remained trapped inside the building. Responding swiftly, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) reached the spot and successfully rescued an injured girl from inside the premises. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

Following the alert, a rescue team from the Thane Territorial Forest Department was dispatched to handle the situation. Deputy Conservator of Forests, Sachin Repal, appealed to residents to remain calm and maintain distance from the animal. He specifically warned against provoking the leopard, stating that such actions could worsen the human-animal conflict and put more lives at risk.

Volunteers from the NGO SARRP-India also joined the rescue and containment efforts, supporting forest officials on-site, as reported by Mid-Day.

Meanwhile, a video shared on social media platform X by the handle “Gems of Mira Bhayandar” showed dramatic visuals of locals and fire brigade personnel rescuing a badly injured woman through a house window. The leopard was believed to be confined somewhere inside the same building at the time of the rescue.

All injured individuals were transported on stretchers to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

The incident has once again highlighted the growing challenges of wildlife straying into urban spaces, underscoring the need for caution, coordination, and long-term solutions to prevent such dangerous encounters. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while urging residents to stay indoors and follow official instructions until the leopard is safely rescued.
