In a move to boost women’s empowerment and create self-reliant communities, LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India) has launched a unique initiative called the Bima Sakhi Scheme. This plan is not just another employment opportunity—it’s a mission to provide financial independence to women while spreading insurance awareness across the country, especially in remote and rural areas. What sets it apart is that women can join without spending even a single rupee and start earning a monthly income of ₹7,000 right from the first year.

What is the LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme All About?

The Bima Sakhi Scheme is a specially designed program by LIC aimed at encouraging women to become insurance agents. But this is not a typical agency model—LIC ensures that every woman who signs up under this scheme gets formal training, professional guidance, and a monthly financial incentive, making it a stable and dignified source of income.

Rather than focusing solely on commission-based earnings, this scheme supports women with a fixed monthly income, particularly in their early years, so they can build a sustainable career without financial pressure.

How Much Can a Bima Sakhi Earn?

Under this scheme, LIC pays women agents a monthly income for the first three years, based on their activity and performance.

In the first year, a fixed amount of ₹7,000 per month is offered to every qualifying agent.

In the second year, women agents receive ₹6,000 per month. However, this comes with a condition: at least 65% of the insurance policies sold in the first year must remain active.

These payments serve as financial support while the agent builds her business and client base.

This approach ensures that women feel secure and motivated while contributing meaningfully to their families and communities.

What Documents Are Required for Application?

If you’re interested in applying, make sure to prepare the following documents:

Age proof, self-attested

Address proof, self-attested

A copy of your educational qualification certificate, duly attested

A recent passport-size photograph to be attached with the application form

These basic documents will help initiate your onboarding process with LIC.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

Women interested in joining the scheme must meet these eligibility criteria:

Must be between 18 and 70 years of age

Should have completed at least 10th grade in education

Can apply either by visiting the nearest LIC branch or through the official LIC website

This broad age range gives a fair chance to both young women starting their careers and older women looking for a fresh start or post-retirement engagement.

Who Cannot Apply?

While the scheme is inclusive, there are a few exceptions:

If you are already working as an LIC agent or employee, you are not eligible.

Immediate family members of LIC employees—such as spouses, children, parents, siblings, or in-laws—are also barred from applying.

Retired LIC employees and former agents are not eligible under this scheme either.

The LIC Bima Sakhi Scheme is more than a job opportunity—it’s a platform for transformation. For women seeking meaningful work, financial stability, and a role that creates impact in society, this scheme offers the right balance of training, income, and purpose.
