Pune: A case was registered against an individual as he allegedly entered a hostel, through an open door, in a college premises under the Lonikand Police Station jurisdiction and stole a laptop that was charging or kept in the student’s room.

As per further information shared by Vishwajit Kaingade, Senior Police Inspector, Lonikand Police Station, by studying the pattern of frequent crimes in this way, Senior Police Inspector Vishwajit Kaingade had instructed the officers of the investigation team Gajanan Jadhav and Ravindra Godse to patrol the Raisoni College area and take action by laying a trap.

Accordingly, Gajanan Jadhav, Ravindra Godse of the Investigation Team, Police Officer Farande, Police Officer Jagtap, Police Constable Dhone, and Police Constable Mane, on 15/10/2023, were patrolling near the Raisoni College area. The accused who stole the laptop was standing in front of the main gate of Raisoni College wearing a full sleeve blue shirt and black pants.

When Police Officer Farande informed Gajanan Jadhav about the accused, he, with the help of the above-mentioned police staff, laid a successful trap in front of the main gate of Raisoni College and took the accused into custody.

When interrogated, the accused was identified as Nilesh Prafulchand Karnawat, a resident of Jalgaon.

Also, when the police got the CCTV footage of the place where the laptop was stolen, they realized that the accused in the CCTV footage and the arrested accused were the same, and then conducted further investigation.

The accused has admitted that the crimes of laptop theft have been committed by him in the Dehu, Bibvewadi, and Lonavala areas too. A total of 27 laptops, 1 tab, and 1 mobile handset worth Rs 10,80,000 have been seized from the accused.

The investigation conducted against the accused has revealed a total of 18 similar crimes by the accused, all registered under Section 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), from which:

Ā· 1 crime is registered at Lonavala Police Station (Pune Rural Police)

Ā· 1 crime is registered at Paud Police Station (Pune Rural Police)

Ā· 2 crimes are registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station (Pune City Police)

Ā· 5 crimes are registered at Warje Malwadi Police Station (Pune City Police)

Ā· 1 crime is registered at Bibwewadi Police Station (Pune City Police)

Ā· 1 crime is registered at Wanowrie Police Station (Pune City Police)

Ā· 1 crime is registered at Loni Kalbhor Police Station (Pune City Police)

Ā· 2 crimes are registered at Dighi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad Police)
