A madrasa, which had encroached on the Pavangad Fort, was demolished by the Kolhapur police on Saturday. Following the aggressive stance of the Hindutva organization, the Kolhapur police and administration razed this unauthorized madrasa during nighttime, keeping utmost secrecy.

As per information, the process to remove the ‘madrasa’ started at 2 am on the night of January 6 and finished after 7 long hours at around 9 am. All these developments had picked up pace since Friday evening. All roads leading to the fort were closed by the police. Before that, some children from the Madrasa were sent to their villages by arranging vehicles. The District Police Chief, along with several officers, were present at Pavangad Fort from night time on January 5.

It is worthy to note that since 1979, the Hindutva organization has complained to the district administration about the presence of an unauthorized madrasa at Pavangad. It was reported that some Muslim youths from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh visited the place regularly.

The administration followed extreme secrecy to remove the unauthorized madrasa on the Pavangad Fort. Meanwhile, the police have closed all the roads leading to the fort.
