Minister Murlidhar Mohol discusses runway expansion and new airport projects with AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar, aiming to boost Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure.

Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, has made significant strides in enhancing airport infrastructure across Maharashtra. In recent talks with Sanjeev Kumar, Chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), discussions focused on key projects including the expansion of Pune Airport and the development of new airports in Purandar, Solapur, and Akola.

Mohol highlighted that the AAI is set to begin the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) Survey soon. It will follow after necessary permissions from the Defence Ministry for the runway expansion at Pune Airport. The discussions emphasized streamlining the expansion process. The discussions included planning for future stages.

Mohol’s discussions were mainly aimed at addressing delays and seeking updates on proposals. He directed comprehensive actions to accelerate the development of new airports. He expressed optimism about the progress, stating, “The discussions with AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar were constructive, aiming to accelerate airport development across Maharashtra.”

Mohol also confirmed, “AAI is set to commence the OLS Survey work, having received Defence Ministry approval. We discussed strategies for seamless runway expansion and outlined next steps.”

The focus remains on bolstering Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure to improve connectivity and support regional growth. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to advance air travel accessibility in the state.
