Mumbai/Pune, May 5, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has approved a ₹4,628.85 crore budget for the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority for the financial year 2026–27, giving a strong push to infrastructure development across the Pune Metropolitan Region.
The budget was presented by Metropolitan Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari and includes revised estimates for 2025–26 along with projections for the upcoming fiscal year. The authority has projected total receipts at ₹4,628.85 crore, while expenditure is estimated at ₹4,625.30 crore, leaving a marginal surplus.

A significant portion of the budget ₹2,918.81 crore has been allocated to infrastructure and engineering works. Key projects include metro expansion, major road development, the proposed Katraj – Yerawada twin tunnel, the Ring Road project, Lonavala skywalk, river improvement works for Pawna and Indrayani, urban growth clusters, tourism corridors, and housing initiatives.
The land and property department has been allotted ₹970.76 crore. Additionally, a dedicated fire services fund has been planned, with expected receipts of ₹100.05 crore and expenditure of ₹71.04 crore during the financial year.
During the PMRDA’s 14th meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, Fadnavis directed officials to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the Katraj – Yerawada tunnel project. He instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation to take the lead, with coordination support from PMRDA.
The Chief Minister also set a six-month deadline for preparing a structured development plan for villages under PMRDA jurisdiction. He further called for a development roadmap for 23 villages recently merged with PMC.
Discussions were also held on major projects such as the proposed Purandar airport. In a move aimed at improving efficiency in public services, PMRDA approved a proposal to delegate routine land-related powers directly to the metropolitan commissioner. This step is expected to speed up processes such as plot allotment, ownership transfers, inheritance entries, and issuance of no-objection certificates.
The authority also granted retrospective approval to powers exercised since June 2021, following the merger of the Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority with PMRDA.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with senior officials and civic representatives, some of whom joined virtually.
