In the coming five years, nearly 250 new local services and 100 mail express trains will enhance the overall travel experience of commuters in Mumbai.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a record allocation of Rs 15,940 crores has been given to Maharashtra in the budget 2024-25.

While addressing the media, he stated that it is almost 13.5 times more than the average allocation of Rs 1171 crore per year given to Maharashtra during 2009-14.

Ram Karan Yadav, General Manager, Central Railway and other Divisional Railway Managers of Mumbai, Bhusaval, Nagpur, Pune and Solapur and Divisional Railway Managers in Maharashtra were present on the occasion at their respective headquarters.

During the video conference, Vaishnaw said that in the coming five years, nearly 250 local services and 100 mail express trains will enhance the overall travel experience of commuters in Mumbai.

Additionally, the development of multiple mega terminus across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, will be a harbinger for the future growth and development of various regions of Maharashtra.

Vaishnaw also said that the laying of new tracks has been speeded up in the last 10 years in Maharashtra with an average 183 km per year of new line being constructed, which is 3 times more than the average 58 km per year constructed during 2009-2014. Since Maharashtra is 100% electrified in respect of rail tracks, new tracks are being added with electrification.

Presently, total projects worth Rs 1.3 lakh crore are in progress in Maharashtra out of this 41 projects of laying new tracks of 5877 km are ongoing with an expenditure of Rs 81,580 crore. It includes New lines, Doubling, Tripling and Gauge Conversion. 

Presently, 128 stations in Maharashtra are being developed as Amrit stations. Another big achievement by Railways in Maharashtra is a record 929 rail flyovers & under- bridges constructed in the last 10 years since 2014.

The deliberations also included the future planning for the improvement of Pune station and development of alternative coaching terminus at various locations like Khadki, Hadapsar, Shivaji Nagar and Uruli Kanchan Station.

Minister also highlighted the project of bullet train which he emphasised will be a catalyst for regional development along the entire line at various nodes across states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
