Maharashtra Government Launches Lek Ladki Yojana to Empower Girls
The Maharashtra government has introduced the Lek Ladki Yojana, a comprehensive scheme aimed at promoting girls’ education, reducing mortality rates, and preventing child marriage. Launched on April 1, 2023, this initiative succeeds the Majhi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana.
The Lek Ladki Yojana provides financial assistance to girls from economically disadvantaged families holding yellow and orange ration cards. Beneficiaries will receive ₹5,000 after birth, ₹6,000 after passing Class I, ₹7,000 after reaching Class VI, ₹8,000 after passing Class XI, and ₹75,000 after attaining 18 years. The total benefit amounts to ₹1,01,000.
To be eligible, girls must be born after April 1, 2023, and have a resident Maharashtra family with an annual income below ₹1 lakh. Two girls per household can apply.
Applicants must submit necessary documents, including birth certificates, family income certificates, Aadhaar cards, passbooks, ration cards, voter cards, school certificates, and family planning surgery certificates.
The Lek Ladki Yojana complements the Ladaki Baheen Yojana, which provides ₹1,500 monthly assistance to women aged 21-65. This initiative demonstrates the state government’s commitment to empowering girls and women.
The scheme’s objectives are to encourage girls’ education, reduce mortality rates, and prevent child marriage. By providing financial support, the government aims to create a brighter future for Maharashtra’s girls.
