Pune, July 9, 2026: The Maharashtra government has constituted the Pune Transport Committee, a two-tier body aimed at accelerating the planning, funding, execution and monitoring of three of the city’s key infrastructure projects—the Pune Ring Road, the underground road network and the High Capacity Mass Transit Route (HCMTR).

The decision was announced through a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Wednesday. The committee has been created to improve coordination among various government agencies and ensure timely implementation of these major transport projects.

The High-Level Committee will be chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, while the Executive Committee will be headed by Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.

The move follows directions issued by the Chief Minister to establish a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the projects. Based on those instructions, the Pune Municipal Commissioner submitted a proposal to the state government in June, leading to the formation of the committee.

According to the GR, the High-Level Committee will include the Deputy Chief Ministers, the Minister of State for Urban Development, the Chief Secretary, senior officials from key state departments, Pune’s Mayor, the Leader of the House, the Standing Committee Chairperson and the Pune Municipal Commissioner. For matters related to the Inner Ring Road, representatives from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), including its Mayor, Commissioner and other officials, along with the PMRDA Commissioner, will also be part of the committee.

The Executive Committee will comprise the Pune Municipal Commissioner as Chairperson, the PMRDA Commissioner, Pune Police Commissioner, City Engineer, Chief Engineer (Projects), PMRDA Chief Engineer and the Additional Municipal Commissioner, who will serve as the committee’s secretary. For Ring Road-related works, officials from PCMC, including its Commissioner, City Engineer and Police Commissioner, will also participate.

The committee’s jurisdiction will cover areas falling under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

The High-Level Committee will be responsible for policy decisions, inter-agency coordination, land acquisition, financial planning, funding approvals and overall project supervision. Financial proposals for the projects will be routed through the Urban Development Department to the Finance and Planning Department for approval.

The Chief Minister will also appoint financial advisors, technical consultants and four independent members to assist in project implementation.

Meanwhile, the Executive Committee will oversee day-to-day administration, technical execution and coordination among the various departments involved in the projects.

Welcoming the decision, Pune Municipal Corporation Leader of the House **Ganesh Bidkar** said the formation of the Pune Transport Committee would be a significant step towards reducing travel time, strengthening public transport and ensuring planned urban development across Pune.
