Pune Gears Up For Ashadhi Wari As Dnyaneshwar And Tukaram Palkhis Arrive Today For Two-Day Halt
Pune, July 9, 2026: Pune is fully prepared to welcome the Palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj, which will arrive in the city on Thursday as part of the annual Ashadhi Wari pilgrimage to Pandharpur. The two revered processions will stay in Pune for two nights, with the city expected to resonate with devotional chants of “Hari Naam” as lakhs of Warkaris gather for the occasion.
The Palkhi of Sant Tukaram Maharaj departed from Dehu on Tuesday, while Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi began its onward journey from Alandi on Wednesday.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made elaborate arrangements to welcome the Palkhis. Civic officials and public representatives will receive the processions at Wakadewadi, from where they will proceed through Fergusson Road into the heart of the city. The traditional route includes ceremonial aartis at Dnyaneshwar-Tukaram Paduka Chowk and Khandujibaba Temple before the processions continue along Laxmi Road, where thousands of devotees are expected to line both sides of the streets for darshan.
Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj’s Palkhi will halt at the Palkhi Vitthoba Temple in Bhawani Peth, while Sant Tukaram Maharaj’s Palkhi will stay at the nearby Nivdungya Vitthoba Temple.
The civic administration has arranged accommodation for Warkaris in municipal schools across the city. Comprehensive facilities, including drinking water, food, medical services, medicines, sanitation, and disaster management teams, have also been deployed to ensure the comfort and safety of pilgrims.
The Bhawani Peth halt had been at the centre of a controversy over the past few months after the Palkhi Sohala Committee proposed shifting the traditional halt to another location due to space constraints. However, following the intervention of the Chief Minister, the Pune Municipal Corporation acquired adjacent properties near the Palkhi Vitthoba Temple by providing appropriate compensation to landowners.
With the expansion of the temple premises, civic officials have assured that the enlarged space will comfortably accommodate the large number of devotees expected during the two-day stay, ensuring smooth movement and better facilities for pilgrims.
