Mumbai, June 26, 2025: The Maharashtra government officially launched its e-Cabinet system today, distributing iPads to all state ministers with the aim of going paperless and maintaining confidentiality of meeting agendas. The initiative was inaugurated during a cabinet meeting held in Mumbai.

To support this transition, the government has procured 50 iPads along with matching accessories—50 keyboards, Apple Pencils, and covers—at an estimated total cost of ₹1.06 crore. Each iPad is reportedly priced at over ₹1 lakh.

The government has emphasized that the move is aimed at ensuring meeting agendas do not leak before official discussions take place and to promote efficiency and transparency through digital governance. Ministers will now receive meeting proposals directly on their devices, protected by individual passwords to ensure data confidentiality.

Earlier this year, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik presented the e-Cabinet concept during a cabinet meeting. Following this, the government approved the project as part of its drive toward a paperless and tech-driven administration.

A previous e-tender for purchasing these devices in April 2025 did not receive eligible bids, but a fresh tender issued in May led to successful procurement.

Officials indicated that as ministers become familiar with the new system, all future cabinet meetings may soon be conducted fully in digital format.
