Maharashtra govt slashes VAT on petrol by Rs 2.80 per litre

Pune: The Maharashtra government on Sunday reduced Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 2.80 per litre and Rs 1.44 per litre respectively.

“In Pune, the estimated new rate will be Rs 108.79 per litre and diesel will be 93.92 litres respectively,” said Sahil Kedari, who runs a petrol pump in Wanworie.

The rates from the All India Petrol Dealers Association will be issued after 1 am tonight.

The Maharashtra government’s move comes a day after the Centre reduced the excise duties on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per litre respectively. The reduction in excise duty meant the prices of petrol and diesel dipped by Rs 9.5 per litre and Rs 7 per litre respectively.

The move was welcome by the Pune people.

Bharat Diwanji, a motorist said,“It is a very good decision by the state government. Common man is already facing problem of high inflation, reducing in petrol will bring relief.”
