The elections were pending due to delays in local self-government body polls in Maharashtra. However, after the completion of civic body elections in recent weeks, the process for the Legislative Council elections has now been cleared.
The constituencies where elections will be conducted include Solapur, Ahilyanagar, Thane, Jalgaon, Sangli-Satara, Nanded, Yavatmal, Pune, Bhandara-Gondia, Raigad-Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Nashik, Wardha-Chandrapur-Gadchiroli, Amravati, Dharashiv-Latur-Beed, Parbhani-Hingoli and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar-Jalna.

The oath was administered by Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde in the presence of Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar.
Among those elected unopposed were BJP leaders Pramod Jathar, Madhavi Naik, Sunil Karjatkar, Vivek Kolhe and Sanjay Bhende.
Other members included Shiv Sena leaders Neelam Gorhe and Bachchu Kadu, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve and NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique.
