Three Major Trains To Halt At Sawantwadi Road Station, Boosting Konkan Rail Connectivity
Mumbai, July 9, 2026: In a major boost for rail connectivity in the Konkan region, the Central Government has approved halts for three important long-distance trains at Sawantwadi Road Railway Station in Sindhudurg district. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the decision, stating that Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has granted official approval for the new stoppages.
The move is expected to provide significant relief to Konkan residents, particularly those travelling during the upcoming Ganesh festival season, when demand for train travel to the region is at its peak.

According to the Chief Minister, he had written to the Union Railway Minister on March 25, 2026, requesting additional train halts at Sawantwadi Road station in the interest of public convenience. Acting on the request, the Ministry of Railways issued an approval letter on July 7, 2026.
Following the approval, the following trains will now stop at Sawantwadi Road Railway Station:
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) – Mangaluru Express
- Thiruvananthapuram Central – Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express
- Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) – Thiruvananthapuram North (Kochuveli) Garib Rath Express
Sharing the update on social media, Chief Minister Fadnavis thanked Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approving the additional halts and expressed confidence that the decision would strengthen rail connectivity in the Konkan region.
The Chief Minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his continued support towards Maharashtra’s infrastructure development. He said the new train halts would make travel more convenient for passengers while also boosting tourism and providing an economic fillip to the Konkan region.
