Maharashtra News: Youth Assaults Traffic Cop Amid Congestion, Watch Video
Kalyan, June 22, 2025 — A shocking incident unfolded near Shahad flyover in Kalyan on Tuesday night when a traffic police constable was assaulted by a youth during a routine traffic control operation. The incident, which created chaos for nearly 30 minutes, has resulted in an FIR being lodged against the accused at the Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station.
According to police reports, Constable Sachin Ombase was managing heavy traffic near the Shahad-Ahilyanagar Road around 11 PM when the altercation occurred. The accused, identified as Mayur Kene, was riding his motorcycle in the wrong direction amid the traffic jam. When stopped by the constable and advised to take an alternate route, Kene allegedly lost his temper.
In a fit of rage, Kene reportedly grabbed the officer by the collar, pushed him, and verbally abused him using obscene language. Eyewitnesses also claim that he threatened the officer saying, “Do you dare touch a villager? I’ll show you now!” Kene allegedly attempted to strike the constable with a stone but was restrained by bystanders before further harm could be done.
The heated scuffle caused major disruption in traffic for about half an hour. It was only after intervention by local commuters that the situation was brought under control.
An official complaint has been filed, and the Mahatma Phule Chowk Police have registered a case against Mayur Kene under multiple IPC sections, including assault on a public servant and obstruction of duty. Further investigation is underway.
