Maharashtra ST Corporation To Procure 5,000 Buses Annually, Focus On Electrification
Mumbai: A crucial review meeting of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was held yesterday at the Transport Commissioner’s office, where key decisions were made to enhance the corporation’s operations.
One of the major resolutions was the implementation of a five-year plan under which the ST Corporation will procure 5,000 self-owned buses annually. It was also decided to discontinue the practice of hiring buses on a rental basis, signaling a move towards a more self-sufficient fleet.
To support the transition to electric mobility, the corporation is set to prioritize the establishment of charging stations at every depot. The introduction of electric buses will play a significant role in modernizing the fleet while promoting sustainability.
Additionally, strategies to boost revenue were discussed, including updates to the advertising policy and diesel pump operations. MSRTC was urged to implement supplementary revenue-generation schemes to ensure financial stability.
The meeting was chaired by Vice Chairman and Administrative Director Dr. Madhav Kusekar, with participation from departmental heads, emphasizing the collective commitment to strengthening the state’s public transport system.
These initiatives aim to improve commuter services, reduce costs, and align with environmental goals.
