Maharashtra Vehicles Must Switch to HSRP by April 30

All 2.1 crore vehicles in Maharashtra must transition to High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) by April 30. The move aims to standardize vehicle identification and enhance security.

In Pune, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has received 2,16,751 HSRP orders so far.

Out of these, 79,483 vehicle owners have booked appointments, and 40,924 plates have been fitted. However, many vehicle owners are struggling to get appointments due to limited installation centers.

To address this, the Pune RTO is increasing the number of HSRP installation centers. An RTO official said the number of centers had already been raised from 69 to 124. “We are working on finalizing vendors and will further increase the centers soon,” he added.

HSRPs are tamper-resistant number plates made of aluminum. They feature security elements like a retro-reflective film for better night visibility, a chromium-based Ashoka Chakra hologram, and a unique 10-digit laser-etched serial number.

Many vehicle owners have complained about difficulties in booking appointments. The RTO has assured that increasing installation centers will ease the process. Vehicle owners are advised to get their HSRPs installed before the deadline to avoid penalties.

The state government has mandated the switch to HSRP to ensure better tracking of vehicles and prevent theft. Vehicle owners should check the official RTO website for updates and appointment slots.

With the April 30 deadline approaching, authorities urge vehicle owners to act quickly and avoid last-minute rush.
