Maharashtra, May 18, 2026: Maharashtra is witnessing another major change in weather conditions, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing rain alerts for parts of Konkan and western Maharashtra, while several districts in Vidarbha continue to remain under severe heatwave conditions.

According to weather officials, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts in the Konkan region are likely to experience cloudy weather and light to moderate rainfall over the next few hours. Thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds are also expected in isolated areas. Wind speeds may reach between 40 and 50 kmph, prompting authorities to advise residents to remain cautious during changing weather conditions.

A yellow alert for rain has also been issued for Kolhapur and Satara districts in western Maharashtra. Officials said weather conditions are expected to change after afternoon hours, with possibilities of thunderstorms and scattered showers in some regions. Farmers have been advised to protect harvested crops and take necessary precautions due to sudden rainfall and gusty winds.

Meanwhile, Vidarbha continues to battle intense heatwave conditions. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Wardha and Yavatmal districts, warning residents about extremely high temperatures and severe heat stress. Authorities have urged people to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heatstroke.

A yellow heatwave alert has also been issued for Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur districts, where temperatures are expected to remain above normal. Officials stated that clear skies and humid conditions may further increase discomfort levels, especially for children, senior citizens and outdoor workers.

Although no official alert has been issued for districts including Pune, Ahilyanagar, Sangli, Solapur, Beed, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv, the weather department has predicted chances of light to moderate rainfall and sudden cloudy conditions in some areas.

The IMD said most other parts of Maharashtra are expected to witness predominantly dry weather, though heat and humidity are likely to persist in several regions. Citizens have been advised to follow official weather updates and safety advisories.
