Maharashtra, May 19, 2026: Maharashtra is witnessing sharp weather fluctuations, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing simultaneous rain and heatwave alerts across different parts of the state.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for severe heat in the Vidarbha districts of Akola, Amravati and Wardha. Authorities have advised residents to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours due to the risk of heatstroke and dehydration.

A yellow heatwave alert has also been issued for Hingoli, Nanded, Nagpur and Yavatmal, where temperatures are expected to remain significantly above normal.

In contrast, parts of the Konkan region are likely to experience rainfall activity. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Sindhudurg district, forecasting light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated locations.

Although no official alerts have been issued for Ratnagiri and Raigad, cloudy skies and light showers are expected in some areas, offering partial relief from the prevailing humidity and heat.

In western Maharashtra, Kolhapur district has also been placed under a yellow rain alert, with the possibility of thunderstorms and scattered rainfall. Weather officials said areas in Pune, Satara, Sangli and Solapur may witness cloudy weather and light rain during the afternoon and evening hours.

Meanwhile, Marathwada districts such as Latur and Dharashiv are expected to continue experiencing high temperatures despite no formal weather alert being issued.

The IMD has warned that Maharashtra is currently facing a dual weather pattern, with rainfall activity in some regions and intense heatwave conditions in others. Citizens have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during peak heat hours and monitor official weather updates over the coming days.
