Maharashtra Weather Alert For May 28: Next 12 Hours Critical as Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Likely Across State
Mumbai/Pune: Maharashtra is set to witness a major weather shift over the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms in seven districts across the state. While several regions are likely to receive relief from scorching heat through pre-monsoon showers, Vidarbha continues to battle an intense heatwave with red and orange alerts in place.
According to the weather department, districts including Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, Latur and Dharashiv are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on May 23.
Konkan Region Likely to Receive Heavy Rainfall
In the Konkan belt, districts such as Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are expected to witness cloudy skies and spells of heavy rain in isolated areas. Strong winds along coastal regions are also likely, prompting authorities to urge residents and fishermen to remain cautious.
The sudden change in weather after days of intense heat is expected to provide temporary relief to citizens and farmers.
Rain Alert Continues in Western Maharashtra
The IMD has also maintained a yellow alert for Kolhapur and Satara districts in Western Maharashtra. Thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are likely in ghat regions, while some areas may continue to experience cloudy weather and gusty winds.
In Solapur district, daytime temperatures are expected to remain high, but weather conditions may change by evening with chances of light rain and a slight dip in temperature.
Marathwada Districts Under Thunderstorm Warning
Latur and Dharashiv districts in Marathwada have also been placed under a thunderstorm alert. Weather officials have predicted lightning activity along with light to moderate rainfall in these regions.
Although no official alert has been issued for Beed, Parbhani and Nanded districts, isolated light showers are likely in some areas.
Vidarbha Faces Severe Heatwave Conditions
While several parts of Maharashtra may receive rain, Vidarbha continues to remain under severe heatwave conditions. Red alert warnings have been issued for Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts due to a sharp rise in temperatures.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid stepping outdoors during afternoon hours, stay hydrated and take precautions against heatstroke.
Meanwhile, Chandrapur, Nagpur and Yavatmal districts are under orange alert for heatwave conditions, while Gadchiroli and Gondia districts have been placed under yellow alert.
Light Rain Expected in Pune, Nashik and Raigad
The weather department has also forecast isolated light rainfall in parts of Pune, Raigad, Nashik ghat areas and Ahilyanagar over the next 24 hours.
With rainfall activity in some regions and extreme heat in others, Maharashtra is currently witnessing a contrasting weather pattern across the state.
