IMD Issues Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Rain Expected Across Maharashtra in Next 24 Hours
Maharashtra, October 28, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Maharashtra, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds across several regions on October 29. A total of 29 districts have been placed under Yellow and Orange alerts due to the anticipated adverse weather conditions.
Over the past few days, Maharashtra has experienced fluctuating weather — with periods of sunshine interspersed with localized rainfall. However, the IMD now warns of intensified rain activity across multiple regions of the state.
Konkan and Mumbai Region
Districts including Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds. A Yellow Alert has been issued for these areas.
Western Maharashtra
Pune and Satara are likely to experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, while the ghat regions may receive heavy downpours. Kolhapur, Sangli, and Solapur are also expected to see scattered rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. All these districts remain under a Yellow Alert.
Marathwada
The IMD forecasts light to moderate rain in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Beed, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv, while Jalna, Parbhani, and Hingoli may experience heavy rainfall with lightning activity. All Marathwada districts are under a Yellow Alert.
North Maharashtra
Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon are expected to receive light to moderate rain, while Nashik and its ghat areas could see heavy showers. The IMD has issued Yellow Alerts for all northern districts.
Vidarbha
Districts including Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Nagpur, Wardha, and Washim are expected to witness light to heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, and Yavatmal have been placed under an Orange Alert due to the likelihood of very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds.
The IMD has urged residents across Maharashtra to stay alert, follow official advisories, and avoid venturing out during intense rainfall or thunderstorm conditions.
