Maharashtra is set to experience unusual weather conditions with rain, thundershowers, and minor hailstorms forecasted for December 26 and 27. Weather experts attribute these changes to snowfall in Himachal Pradesh and rains in parts of north India, which are drawing moisture from the Arabian Sea.
On Monday, overcast conditions were observed in several areas of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. According to the Pune Meteorological Department Chief, Krishnanand Hosalikar, the forecast indicates rain in Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, and Nashik on December 26. On December 27, rain is likely in districts such as Ahilyanagar, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Hingoli, Akola, Amravati, Buldhana, and Washim.
Thunderstorms are expected at isolated locations across Maharashtra, with minor hailstorms predicted in parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha on December 27. Gusty winds are also anticipated in Nandurbar, Dhule, Jalgaon, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Gondia, Wardha, Washim, and nearby areas.
The state has been experiencing cold wave conditions, including in Mumbai and Konkan. While cloudy skies on December 25 and 26 may slightly ease the cold, temperatures are expected to drop again from December 30. Meteorologist Manikrao Khule confirmed that the cold wave will intensify by the end of the month.
