New Delhi: Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) launched its first ground-up electric sport utility vehicles (SUVs), the BE 6e and XEV 9e, on Tuesday, marking a significant step in the company’s electric vehicle (EV) journey. The BE 6e is priced at ₹18.9 lakh, while the XEV 9e is priced at ₹21.9 lakh (ex-showroom). These two models are part of the six electric vehicles planned under Mahindra’s XEV and BE brands, with additional releases expected until 2028.

Deliveries for the BE 6e and XEV 9e are set to begin in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year.

As part of the rollout, Mahindra is revamping its dealer network in major metro cities. The company’s competitive pricing strategy for the new electric SUVs is aimed at attracting value-conscious customers, benchmarking the prices against India’s best-selling mid and premium internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs. This move is aimed at competing with upcoming EV launches, including Hyundai’s Creta EV.

The BE 6e and XEV 9e are built on Mahindra’s electric-only INGLO platform. The BE 6e offers an ARAI-certified range of up to 682 km, while the XEV 9e provides up to 656 km on a single charge, both powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery packs. A fast-charging option enables the vehicles to charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes with a 175 kW DC charger.

Mahindra has committed to investing ₹4,500 crore from its ₹16,000 crore EV budget for FY22-FY27, focusing on product development, advanced technology, and scaling production. The company aims to achieve a manufacturing capacity of 10,000 ground-up EVs at its Pune facility by March 2025.

The launch prices for both SUVs correspond to their 59kWh battery variants, which utilize a cell-to-pack design with blade cells sourced from Chinese OEM BYD Auto.
