Manjusha Nagpure Elected Unopposed As Pune Mayor After NCP, Congress Withdraw Candidates
Pune, February 9, 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Manjusha Nagpure was elected unopposed as the Mayor of Pune on Monday after candidates from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Congress withdrew from the contest.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi, who was appointed as the election officer for the mayoral polls, formally declared Nagpure elected. The mayor’s post was reserved for a woman corporator from the general category.
This marks the first time in four years that Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has a mayor, as elections had been delayed due to legal challenges after the previous term ended in 2022.
BJP leader Ganesh Bidkar had appealed to the NCP and Congress to withdraw their nominations to allow a unanimous election. The request was made to enable the civic body to immediately hold condolence meetings for senior leaders Ajit Pawar and Suresh Kalmadi, who passed away in January. Following the appeal, NCP corporator Sheetal Sawanr and Congress corporator Ashwini Landge withdrew their nominations.
Political Background and Profile
Nagpure, 46, is a three-time corporator and was elected unopposed in the recent PMC elections. She was first elected as a corporator in 2012 from the Anandnagar area on Sinhagad Road. In the civic elections held on January 15, 2026, she secured an unopposed win from the Suncity–Manikbaug ward.
She was chosen over other senior contenders, including four-time corporator Varsha Tapkir and three-time corporator Mansi Deshpande. Notably, her ward falls within the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, represented by NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule, a seat the BJP has been keen to make inroads into.
Nagpure hails from a family associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Her husband, Deepak Nagpure, is a BJP office-bearer. She is among the more highly educated corporators in the PMC, holding an MBA from ICFAI University, completed in 2021. She earlier worked in the IT sector before entering politics.
Assets and Vision
According to disclosures, the Nagpure family’s assets are valued at approximately ₹3.22 crore, with income largely derived from leasing commercial properties. She is the mother of two children.
She has additionally advocated the ‘Swachh Ward, Beautiful Ward’ initiative to curb open garbage dumping, along with upgrading civic hospitals and promoting digital education in PMC-run schools.
