The Supreme Court has ordered that Marathi boards be put up in bold letters on the shops in Mumbai. According to this, the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) took action against 176 shops on Tuesday (28th November). 

As many as 3 thousand 269 shops and establishments were visited and inspected in one day. Also, the municipal corporation has warned that Marathi boards should be put up as soon as possible or face action.

BMC held a comprehensive meeting regarding putting up bold nameplates in Marathi language, Devanagari script on all shops and establishments in Mumbai. In this meeting, orders have been given to strictly follow the directions of the Supreme Court. 24 divisional level teams have been formed to take action against shops and establishments.

According to the petition filed in the Supreme Court, a deadline of two months was given to put up the nameplates of shops and establishments in Marathi Devanagari script in bold letters. This term expired on 25 November. So, action has been taken on Tuesday. 3 thousand 269 shops and establishments were visited and inspected for Marathi nameplates.

Nameplates were found on 3 thousand 93 establishments. On the other hand, 176 shops and establishments did not have nameplates in Marathi, so punitive action has been taken against them. Also, the Municipal Corporation has warned that a fine of Rs 2000 and a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per person will be levied against violators.
